shEqual is the first coordinated effort in Australia to promote gender equality and address the drivers of violence against women in advertising through engaging agencies, brands, regulators, governments and the community.

Gender Equality in Advertising Workplaces

This online interactive Course is designed to build your understanding of the key concepts around gender inequality and its impact in the workplace. This course explores gender inequality, unconscious bias, and barriers and resistance to change, as well as tools and strategies to promote gender equality in the workplace. 

This course is designed for senior leadership, managers and human resource staff and anyone interested in leading change for gender equity in an advertising workplace.

On completion of this Course you will have:

  • An increased understanding of gender inequality within the Australian workforce, the advertising industry and the case for gender equality.
  • An increased understanding of the barriers to gender equality, including unconscious bias, the merit myth and common problems encountered.
  • An introduction to the tools and strategies to achieve gender equality in the workplace.

 Course structure

This Course includes one 2.5 hour online interactive workshop.

Participants can also choose to complete additional activities and read supporting resources.

 Time and assessment

This Course will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

The Course does not include an assessment but does require interactive engagement by participants in webinar activities.

On completion of this Course a Certificate of Completion will be issued.

 Why do this course

Too often in advertising women are stereotyped, sexualised, invisible or defined in relation to men, these portrayals contribute to gender inequality and violence against women.

The advertising industry has the power to change these portrayals, and by doing so, create a world that supports gender equality and ends violence against women. For this change to occur it must start within advertising workplaces.  

Gender equality is vital for the health and wellbeing of every Australian. Embedding gender equality in workplaces will contribute to improved productivity and organisational performance, attract and retain talent and enhance organisational reputation as well as contributing to the prevention of violence against women.

Target audience

This course is designed for senior leadership, managers and human resource staff and anyone interested in leading change for gender equity in an advertising workplace, both creative and media agencies and brands.

Prerequisite knowledge

The training does not assume any prior knowledge.
