Being an Active Bystander to Prevent Violence Against Women
This online interactive Course will assist you to speak up when confronted with everyday sexism, behaviours and attitudes that justify, excuse, blame, trivialise or minimise violence against women. You will be taken through the causes, prevalence and impact of domestic violence, sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women.
An active bystander can be a friend, family member, colleague, or stranger. Being an active bystander sends a message that violence against women is everyone’s business and that everyone has a positive role to play in eliminating it.
On completion of this Course you will have:
- increased your understanding and confidence to discuss violence against women with your colleagues, friends and family
- built your skills to challenge attitudes and behaviours that support violence against women
- acquired practical tools to be an active bystander
This Course is designed to build your confidence to speak up when confronted with everyday sexism as well as a range of behaviours and attitudes that justify, excuse, blame, trivialise or minimise violence against women.
This Course includes a 3-hour online interactive webinar and a self-directed activity to complete prior to attending the online interactive webinar.
Time and assessment
This Course will take approximately 3.5 hours to complete, including a self-directed activity and a 3-hour online interactive webinar. The course does not include an assessment but does required interactive engagement by participants in webinar activities.
On completion of this Course a Certificate of Completion will be issued.
Why do this course
WHV’s active bystander training focuses on the most pervasive forms of violence against women, but the active bystander tools can be used to challenge any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying. The tools are designed to reinforce healthy, respectful behaviours and focuses on what people in the workplace, communities and families can do to make a difference.
This Course is designed for all audiences interested in taking action to prevent violence against women.
Each online delivery is capped at 20 participants. Minimum numbers apply in order for the scheduled training to proceed.
